Turning 40
Tomorrow I’ll turn forty
But the sight in my vision
Says I’m still 18.
I’ve never been afraid of age
But I didn’t think
This day would ever come.
Age is a human construct
But this does feel like a milestone
Surely now I must fully mature?
But hang on my vices are all but gone,
Alcohol, crisps and chocolate
I’m even in bed at 7
Pouring over my books.
‘Youll be living in a monastery next’
Said a helpful soul like
I was punishing myself.
I’m not punishing myself.
I’m enriching myself.
Many happy returns
For the special day.
I might look boring but
Unlike some people
I don’t need vices and crutches
To live my life.
